When we saw Hook + Gaff’s video on RedFin Charters and Project ReSpeck, we were tremendously honored! Their founder, Mike Sims, grew up in the Lowcountry and has spent his life connected to the water. He spent 15 years perfecting his craft and knows a thing or two about dedication. Hook + Gaff’s philanthropy efforts include helping Veterans, environmental education and protecting our marine resources. Their headquarters is right here in the heart of the lowcountry and they continually give back to their community through their efforts. We appreciate the recognition and want you to know that all of the guides at RedFin Charters are dedicated to preserving our natural resources for generations to come.
RedFin Charters, with the help of Z-Man Fishing and Eye Strike Fishing, launched Project ReSpeck in January after the 5th largest fish kill in South Carolina history struck Charleston. Project ReSpeck is being implemented through the CPR Initiative (Community and Professional Response Initiative) whose mission is to provide support for organizations with programs and services focused on the protection, preservation, and sustainability of the diverse saltwater estuaries and ecosystems in and surrounding the South Carolina coastal regions.
Project ReSpeck reached its goal of $25,000 less than 5 months after it was launched and will facilitate the restocking of 600,000 – 700,000 speckled sea trout into South Carolina waters annually. This accomplishment not only helps the population of speckled sea trout recover quickly, it mitigates part of the losses from the large fish kill that happened here in early 2018 .
