5 Things to Do on the Charleston Next Weekend

Are you looking to spice up your boring weekends? Do you love being outdoors and getting out on the water. At Redfin charters we love giving our clients the most memorable experiences possible, so today we’re going to tell you about 5 activities that can make for a great time for you, your friends, or your family:

1. Dolphin Tours

Dolphin tours are one of our most popular non-fishing trips available. We take you out on the Charleston waterways and get you to the perfect spots to see dolphins swimming and playing up close. It’s always super fun to watch these magnificent creatures do what they do everyday. Charleston is also one of the only places you can watch dolphins strand feeding, where dolphins group up and push different fish towards the shore. They even sometimes strand themselves on the beach (hence the term “strand feeding”) before pulling themselves back into the water. If you love dolphins then you can’t go wrong with one of our dolphin tours.

2. Ecology Tours

If you love being out in nature and learning about all the different critters that live there, our ecology tours are a perfect Saturday afternoon activity. Our knowledgeable guides can help you discover all the flora and fauna found throughout Charleston. These trips give you a ton of opportunities to see manatees, sea turtles, otters, wild birds of prey, and of course dolphins. If fishing isn’t your thing but you still love riding out on the water these eco tours are a great way to feel the sea breeze and see the beauty Charleston has to offer. We also take our 100 gallon “bait shack” with tons of critters you can take out and touch while learning more from out guides. These ecology tours are great for kids who love animals or adults who want to learn more about the Charleston waterways and the creatures that inhabit them.

3. Fishing Tournaments

Are you and your buddies constantly arguing about who the best fisherman is? Why not come out and figure it out once and for all! Our group charters are perfect for those looking for a little friendly competition. We can take out groups of up to 80 people (we take 2-20 boats so things don’t get cramped) out on our group fishing charters. We run a tournament with prizes for the biggest fish caught, redfish with the most spots, and team/boat that catches the most fish. We also have prizes including a biggest fish trophy, a custom Redfin stainless steel tumbler, t-shirts and other exclusive Redfin swag, and a funny award for the “worst” fisherman. If that’s not enough, all of our boats are stocked with fireball shots, coolers for drinks, humidors with fine imported cigars, and chilled towels for staying cool.

4. Shark Fishing/Shark Teeth Hunting

We have two shark related activities that are perfect for solo expeditions or a fun weekend trip with your friends or family. For those who love to get their adrenaline pumping, our shark fishing trips are perfect. We take you out to the Charleston where you can find all sorts of sharks including Bonnet Head, Atlantic Sharpnose, Black Tips, Bull, or Tiger sharks. We’ve caught sharks anywhere from 10 to 250 pounds and have even caught some up to 10 feet long! If you want to go after the bigger sharks we recommend taking 4-8 hour trips dedicated to shark fishing as it sometimes takes over an hour to reel in the really big ones.

For those who maybe don’t want to get quite so close to the sharks, we also offer shark teeth/seashell hunting (on its own or as a part of our choose your own adventure package). We take you to the best spots on the shore to find rare shark and megalodon teeth. We use pans to separate the sediment in order to find any teeth (similar to how you would pan for gold). This is a great way to spend an afternoon finding your own cool souvenirs to take home.

5. Harbor Cruises/Watching the Sunset

Sometimes after a long week of work you’d rather not do anything “active” and would rather sit back and relax. That’s ok, because our harbor cruises are the perfect way for you to unwind from a busy week. This Charleston cruise takes you to see all the beautiful scenery of the Charleston and can even show you historical sites like the Battery, USS Yorktown, or Fort Sumter. If you’re looking for something even more lowkey we can take you to the perfect vantage point to see the gorgeous sunset while sipping on some complimentary champagne.

Hopefully we’ve given you some cool ideas of things to do this weekend. If you have any questions about the logistics of any of these trips or want to know about our rates you can give us a call at 843-277-5255 or book a charter online.
